Release Notes
What changed in each OotD release, newest first. The current version is 5.7.1.
5.7.1
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
New:
- Korean translation
Changes:
- Internal cleanup: removed unused code and one third-party library, making the app a little smaller
Fixes:
- Startup error messages (shown when Outlook can’t be found) now appear in Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and Simplified Chinese
5.7.0
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
New:
- Adding an instance now lets you choose which folder it shows (Calendar, Contacts, Inbox, Notes, Tasks, To-Do List, or any other folder), and explains that the name is how the instance appears in the tray menu
Changes:
- A newly added instance now opens flush against the edge of an existing pane, keeping the group compact, instead of in the first free spot on the screen
- At startup, all instances now appear together once they have loaded, instead of one at a time
Fixes:
- Adding or renaming an instance no longer accepts the name of another instance, which made the two share settings
- Renaming an instance without changing its name, or changing only its capitalization, no longer erases its settings
- Adding an instance after renaming another no longer opens a second copy of the renamed instance
- When classic Outlook closes because Outlook was switched to the new Outlook for Windows, OotD now says so instead of suggesting Outlook crashed
5.6.1
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
Fixes:
- OotD now restarts after installing an update from “Install and relaunch”; previously it closed and stayed closed
Note: because the restart is handled by the version you’re updating from, OotD won’t restart on its own after this update. Start it from the Start menu, or it’ll start next time you sign in. Future updates will restart it automatically.
5.6.0
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
Security:
- The updater now checks that a downloaded update is signed by OotD’s publisher and refuses to install it if it isn’t
Fixes:
- Calendar views now use the time scale set in Outlook (for example, 15 minute increments) instead of always showing 30 minute slots
5.5.1
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
Fixes:
- Outlook no longer pops up a window when OotD starts with some add-ins installed (for example, CalDAV Synchronizer), and closing that window no longer makes OotD report that Outlook isn’t running
- Updating OotD no longer overwrites a customised “Outlook on the Desktop” startup task
- Windows now stay behind other applications as intended; the desktop pinning helper was never actually being created
- A window no longer stays on top of other applications after closing an Outlook right-click menu
5.5.0
Important
- OotD only works with Outlook Classic, not the “new” Outlook that Microsoft is pushing on everyone. If you have the “new” Outlook, you will need to switch back to the classic version to use OotD.
New:
- Dark mode: OotD now follows the Windows light/dark app setting for its tray menu, header bar, instance manager and dialogs
- Note: the Outlook calendar and mail content is drawn by Outlook itself and stays light
Changes:
- Redesigned the New Email button icon so it’s clearly visible on both light and dark header bars
- Slimmed the window border
- The top edge and top corners of a window are now easier to grab for resizing
- Startup errors now explain what went wrong and how to fix it, instead of showing a raw error:
- If only the new Outlook for Windows is installed, OotD now says that classic Outlook is required
- If Outlook can’t be started (for example, because Outlook or OotD is running as administrator), OotD explains how to resolve it
- If Outlook’s components are damaged or not registered, OotD explains how to repair Office
- If Outlook is switched to the new Outlook, startup errors say to turn off the “New Outlook” toggle
- These messages are translated into German, French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil) and Chinese (Simplified)
Fixes:
- A window whose saved folder no longer exists (for example, after removing an account) now falls back to the default calendar instead of failing to load
- The transparency slider in the header bar is no longer cut off at 100% display scaling
- Reviewed all translations and filled in text that was still showing in English

- Re-added code signing thanks to signpath.io!
- Updated to latest dotnet SDK & Runtimes

- Exiting from an instance’s context menu now saves the current view settings, matching the tray menu’s exit behavior

- Now has a single installer for both 32-bit and 64-bit office, which should reduce confusion quite a bit.
- Important Notes:
- If you had the 64-bit version installed, when upgrading, it will reset your OotD settings to the defaults.
- To get a single installer to work, and in particular, to detect the bitness of Office, the minimum supported version had to be bumped to Office 2010 (from 2003).
